The design for this cross was adapted from a capital of a pillar in the cathedral of St. Peter and St. George in Bamberg Germany. The cathedral combines the late Romanesque and early French-Gothic styles. Its construction started about 1211 and the church was consecrated in 1237. Bamberg extends over seven hills, each crowned by a beautiful church and features a splendidly preserved old town, encircled by the branches of the river Regnitz. Its long history goes back to AD 902, when the Babenberg family established their residence here. In 1007, Henry II, King of the Romans, made Bamberg a family inheritance and for a short time Bamberg was the center of the Holy Roman Empire. In 1973, the town celebrated the 1000th anniversary of its founding.

Due to the hand casting and proprietary staining process, each of my plaques is unique. Each cross comes with a hanger embedded in the stone. The cross comes with a descriptive tag describing the original stone, explanation of the design or information on where the cross is located.
